Monte Morello: Pieve di Cercina and Castiglione

This is a pleasant walk on the eastern slope of Monte Morello. We start from the parish church of Cercina, documented from year 880 and characterized by the elegant 16th century porch. Through woods and fields we reach Castiglione, a castle dating back to the 10th century and linked for centuries to the family Catellini da Castiglione. The path, offering a charming view of the city of Florence, takes us back to the starting point. 

Along the way, just a few minutes before the ending point, is the Trattoria dei Ricchi, a cute simple restaurant with a panoramic terrace (www.iricchi.it). This is not included in the walk, just a suggestion if you would like to book a lunch. ( I am!) 🍽

🛣Distance: 7 km (4,3 miles) 


🧗‍♀️Total climb : 280 m (920 ft)


⛰Terrain: paths, gravel roads, some paved roads.


✅Level: Easy/moderate due to some uphill:  but hiking shoes are necessary.

🎒What to bring:  Pack with plenty of Water, hiking shoes if you have them please. Bring some snack in case you get hungry, poles if you  use them.

🚌Public transportation: bus 43 leaving C.T.O T1 Careggi at 9,07 arriving in Cercina at 9,24 (Careggi can easily be reached by tram T1).
