Description: A professionally guided walk by Sara.  Located in the heart of Chianti Classico, the Abbey of Passignano is a medieval monastery that was founded in 395 A.D. by the Archbishop of Florence. Saint Giovanni Gualberto, founder of the Vallombrosan Order, a reformed branch of the Benedictines, established a community of monks at the Abbey of Passignano who were specialized in viticulture and forestry. The Abbey’s Church has preserved the reliquary of Saint Giovanni Gualberto since his death in 1073.

We will follow his steps along the river that flows below the abbey, walking through the forest first and the vineyards on the way back. Not to be missed! 

Distance: 10 km

Total climb: +/- 780 mt

Terrain: Forest paths, dirt roads. There are fords to be made, poles and waterproof hiking shoes are recommended. Some parts of the trail are slightly uneven and may be muddy. Suggest bringing spare shoes to leave in the car for the return trip.
