Semi-Urban Walk Series: Cascine Part II

This is a wonderful series for residents of Florence who may have walked around these area before, but have not had the opportunity to learn about the art, history , buildings and what once stood in these magical areas. Since it is in the city, we do not have such challenges of altitude or rocky terraine.  Lorenzo knowledge is based on years of research and reading manuscripts as well as the nature that stands or once stood in its place.

Some upcoming walks in the series will include: Cascine, Isolotto, Scandicci, Bellosguardo, Soffiano, Cintoia, Lastra a Signa, Galluzzo, and Arcetri.

Description: The western part of the Cascine park, being further away from the city, has always been less attended by people. Here you can find a bigger variety of trees along the net of paths that allow us to be easily active even during the winter. We will discover some more secrets of this famous park made public in the 18th century by the Granduke Leopoldo of Lorena. We will hear about the "Cricket Festival", the old zoo, the manifacturing of tobacco, the horse races, the Indian prince Rajaram Chutraputti and his burial.

What to bring: Water, snack and comfortable walking shoes.  Dress WARMLY!  This is not a power walk, its more history of this amazing park as we stroll and look, listen and chat to one another in the safety of outdoors.
